Printable time zones US map
The six time zones used by the states, shaded and keyed in a legend, on one landscape page. States are coloured by the zone covering most of their area; the split states are listed below the map.
What prints
The 50 states shaded in six colours — Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian — with a legend. Each state takes the colour of the zone that covers most of its area, so the twelve split states appear as a single colour; the actual zone boundary through Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Idaho and Oregon is not drawn. Alaska and Hawaii print in the inset boxes. Press Abbreviations before printing so that students can refer to states by code.

Print settings
- Press the Print button on the map (or Ctrl+P / Cmd+P). The page switches to a print layout with the map only — no header, navigation or text.
- Orientation: Landscape. The contiguous states are about 1.6 times as wide as they are tall, which matches a landscape Letter or A4 sheet almost exactly.
- Margins: Default or Minimum. Turn off Headers and footers so the URL and date do not print.
- Scale: 100%, or Fit to page if your browser offers it.
- To make a PDF instead of a paper copy, choose Save as PDF as the destination.
As with the regions sheet, Background graphics must be on or the shading will not print.
Exercises
- Clock row. Along the bottom of the printed sheet draw six clocks, one per zone, and set them for the moment it is 3:00 pm in New York (2:00 Central, 1:00 Mountain, 12:00 Pacific, 11:00 Alaska, 10:00 Hawaii).
- Draw the real boundary. Using the split-state list, pencil the true zone line through Florida's Panhandle, across Kentucky and Tennessee, and down the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas and Texas.
- Arizona. Mark Arizona with a star and write why it matches Pacific time in summer and Mountain time in winter.
- Road trip. Trace Interstate 10 from Jacksonville to Los Angeles and count the zone changes (three: Central at the Apalachicola River, Mountain at El Paso, Pacific at the Colorado River). Do the same for Interstate 90 from Boston to Seattle.
- Flight times. A flight leaves Chicago at 9:00 am Central and lands in Denver after 2 h 30 min. What time does the clock in Denver show? (10:30 am.)
