How to use this map

Quick facts about the United States map

Frequently asked

Is this map free to use?

Yes. Boundary data is public domain from the US Census Bureau and the site has no ads or sign-up. Print or screenshot anything you need for school or personal use.

Why aren't Alaska and Hawaii shown at first?

Showing both makes the other 48 states very small. Press Alaska & Hawaii to zoom out, or open Alaska and Hawaii directly.

Where is Washington, DC?

Between Maryland and Virginia on the Potomac River. It is not a state, so it has no outline of its own on the state map, but it is marked on the cities map.

Can I get a blank map without any borders inside?

Turn off both label buttons for state outlines only. For an outline of the whole country with no state borders, see the blank map page, which has both versions.
