What prints
The striking thing about the printed Georgia sheet is the density of county lines. With 159 counties inside a state of 59,425 square miles, the average county is under 400 square miles, and the map reads almost as a mesh. All of them are drawn, but you should expect the smallest — around Atlanta and in the middle of the state — to be only a few millimetres across on Letter or A4 paper. Atlanta wears the capital star in the north-west quarter, and since it is also the largest city, the Major cities layer adds Augusta on the Savannah River, Columbus on the Chattahoochee, Savannah on the coast and Macon on the Ocmulgee. The Savannah River border with South Carolina and the Chattahoochee border with Alabama both show as irregular edges.
Page orientation
Georgia is about 300 miles north to south and 230 miles east to west. Print in portrait so the state fills the page; this gives the 159 counties the largest possible scale, which matters more here than in any state except Texas. Landscape shrinks the map by roughly a third and makes the counties in the Piedmont run together. If you want a legible county sheet for one region, zoom to it — for example the Atlanta metro or the coast — and print that view separately.

- The 35°N line with Tennessee and North Carolina, the Savannah River with South Carolina, the St. Marys River and surveyed line with Florida, and the Chattahoochee with Alabama.
The sheet is useful for showing the fall line, the boundary between the Piedmont and the Coastal Plain, which runs through Columbus, Macon and Augusta — all three cities grew up where rivers stopped being navigable. Students can join those three dots to draw it. County names and seats are on the county map; the blank Georgia map has the outline only.
